This is my latest completed work. “Otto-Matica” Nine feet tall, four feet wide, three wheels and covered with blown glass spears. Delivery next week, I love that part.

Willow
I have completed this fountain now. Six foot six and about twenty-four inches wide with the most amazing glass leaves. I I love the simplicity of this fountain.

I spent yesterday working on Willow. This particular fountain has what I think is a base trombone and a regular trombone. Both commonly known as ``BONES` in the trombone world so I am told. It’s interesting to visit the twin trombone format again. I wrapped the lower section with several coils of soft pipe and completed the ends with brass candle holders. Long and lean Willow is about six or seven feet high. I have named the piece Willow because of the glass lamp shades that look like willow leaves to me. Out o the water and back to the work shop Willow…..

Jann and I were In Vancouver showing our wears at Epic, the stainable living show in the new convention centre. Nice work on the building people. The new convention centre is a great venue. At least the part we saw was. It’s got a grass roof! Epic was great, we felt like we able to meet a new audience. A different crowd is nice once and a while. I spent part of the week end thinking about art and the environment and another part making bad jokes about the green shopping bags that venders were giving out. (They burn funny)

The Traveller is my take on an industrial age/futuristic, traveling machine robot that may have been made by a mad professor. Designed to go out and travel the world while collecting data this machine is some what clunky as it stumbles along the abandon roads of southern Saskatchewan. As the summer sun drops below the horizon the Traveller shuts down like a record player that has lost power and slowly mumbles to it’s self, “Good night Dave.”

A Symphony For Flying Pigs

Designed for Henry and Beth, from a distance this fountain appears to be sitting in the middle of a field spouting water in all directions at will. In actual fact the fountain is situated in a farm pond that measures about one hundred feet by one hundred feet. Nearly a year ago we were invited down to Gabriola Island to discuss the commissioning of a fountain for this pond. I was just a tad overwhelmed but incredibly excited about the project. This was my first endeavour into the world of large fountain insulations. A few wheels turning and several horns spilling water joined by some wonderful blown glass by Barbara Sanderson and an array of water jets and here it is.

The Traveller

The Traveller: This sculpture was inspired by the telescope that you see mounted on the top of it. It’s not quite finished yet but I thought that I would take a photo and get a 2D look at it. Imagine the Traveller as a low tech 1890s musical robot in search of …. Who knows what? A band. Clumsy and somewhat noisy, he rattles along the dusty roads of southern Saskatchewan or perhaps he dodges the endless traffic of the Lions Gate Bridge.

This barn is situated right across the island highway from our home and studio. The owner painted it this past summer. The snow and a splash of colour make up a lovely landscape.

Kinetic Vision

Kinetic Vision was commissioned by Sharon and Michael Sterling this past August. After a few inspiring telephone conversations with Michael we sorted out just what was needed to properly embellish their suburban garden. After completing the sculpture in early October my shop assistant John and I crated the sculpture up, and off it went to New York. I miss you………. It’s interesting how I am inspired by people that I have never met.
